Dec. 14--As the end of 2006 draws closer, honors are bestowed on a number of people and organizations for their contributions to our communities. All too often, we forget those folks who make things happen and who work hard, frequently without recognition, to make the area a better place to live.

It is fitting that we all pay homage to the recipients of these rewards. As I thought about this, I remembered the civic club to which I belong -- the Rotary Club of Winston-Salem.
