When a U.S. company is looking for foreign trading partners, the glimmer of the superheated economies of countries like China and India should not discourage a look "down under" to Australia. The Commonwealth of Australia has an abundance of natural resources such as bauxite, coal, iron ore, and copper and agricultural products such as wheat and sheep. The U.S. is its largest trading partner for imports, offering attractive export opportunities for American companies. The sixth largest country by area, it is slightly smaller than the contiguous 48 U.S. states and has a population of about 21 million, with a well-educated workforce.
