A land mine explosion on a road in southeastern Turkey killed a Turkish soldier and injured 11 others, a local official said Saturday.

The mine _ believed to have been planted by autonomy-seeking Kurdish rebels _ exploded late Friday, on a road near the mainly Kurdish town of Lice, the official from governor's office said. He was speaking on condition of anonymity because of rules that bar civil servants from speaking to journalists without prior authorization.
