Dec. 6--Montgomery City Councilman Tim Head said his decision was made from the heart. His former allies on the council said he's thinking with his political future in mind.

In a surprise move Tuesday morning, Head voted against discretionary funds in the 2007 city budget, changing a position he has supported since the budget was proposed in August.

"It was a weekend of heavy soul-to-soul, heart-to-heart talks," Head said. "(District 2 constituents) made it clear that they did not want to see tax dollars spent in a discretionary fashion."
