An Aberdeen scientist who conducted a study on hundreds of pensioners up to 85 years ago in the hope of finding better ways of treating ailments like dementia and Alzheimer's disease was last night rewarded for his pioneering research.
Lawrence Whalley, professor of mental health at Aberdeen University, and collaborators Professor Ian Deary and John Starr, of Edinburgh University, received the Margaret McLellan Award at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, in Glasgow, for their research of the ageing process.
