NEW DELHI, Dec 1 Asia Pulse - The US Department of Agriculture has recommended the deregulation of a genetically modified rice variety, that has generated a storm of controversy in the Indian rice industry.
However, the rice variety 'LLRICE601', developed by Germany-based global seed major Bayer, will have to secure the tough US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) compliance clearance before being cleared for use.
"USDA has approved LLRICE601 for deregulation, while an investigation of compliance is going on," said an USDA release.
