- Chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. of the Commission on Elections will convene an emergency meeting of the Comelec's advisory committee on Monday to decide on the automation of the May 2007 polls in pilot regions.
- A high-pressure area over the South China Sea Thursday steered Typhoon Reming (internationally known as typhoon Durian) away from a direct hit on Metro Manila, but the year's strongest howler is still expected to cause damage at the level of Typhoon Milenyo (internationally known as typhoon Xangsane).
- Business confidence in the Philippine economy's fourth-quarter prospects rose to its highest in five and a half years, according to the latest Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (Central Bank of the Philippines) survey among businessmen. The optimism was driven by the peso's recent strength, higher overseas Filipino worker (OFW) remittances, easing fuel prices and the approaching holiday season, the central bank said.
- The Philippine economy's weaker-than-expected performance in the third quarter has strengthened the case for a cut in interest rates by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in the near term, a Swiss banking giant said.
- The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority reported significant investment pledges from January to October 2006, surpassing last year's record for the same period.
