TAIPEI, Dec 1 Asia Pulse - Progress on Taiwan's bid for membership in the World Health Organization (WTO) has been slow since the beginning of this year because of China's obstruction, said a senior foreign affairs official Thursday.

Chen Chung, head of the Department of International Organizations under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, revealed details of the stalemate surrounding Taiwan's WHO bid at a press conference held at the ministry.

This year, Taiwan has submitted six applications for the right to attend various WHO-related meetings. However, it was shut out of five of these events, by either having its applications rejected or missing the meetings due to an untimely invitation, Chen said, ascribing the blame to China, which has never ...
