Thompson's Nutritional Technology, the pasta-based pet food company started by American Italian Pasta Co. founder Richard Thompson, has filed for bankruptcy protection.

TNT lawyer Cynthia Grimes of Grimes & Rebein said the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Nov. 29 and will try to sell its assets.

Grimes said the filing came two weeks after three TNT suppliers filed court papers seeking payment. The suppliers are Fairview Mills in Seneca, Kan.; a division of Fairview Mills; and Lortscher Agri Services in Bern, Kan.
