Austin advertising firm GSD&M recently cut 30 positions in anticipation of a slower year in 2001.
"In a business like advertising, we have to anticipate business trends in a number of different industries," says Eric Webber, a GSD&M spokesman. "This slight reduction in our workforce -- and it amounts to less than 5 percent -- is just our reaction to how we think things will go next year."
