Small-business optimism slipped a bit in September, according to the NFIB Education Foundation's monthly survey of more than 500 small-business owners.

The foundation's Small Business Optimism Index fell to 101.1 last month, down from 101.9 in August and back to where it stood in July. Seven of the index's 10 components dropped, while three posted gains.
