Battery-powered light an alternative to flares.(buoyant signals, evaluation)(Brief Article)
ACR's DistresS.O.S. is a buoyant signal that boasts 150,000 candela of light intensity.
When you read about fishermen who left port but were never found, you can't help wondering what happened to them. Did they make it off the boat? Could they see other boats but couldn't signal them? Why didn't the vessels that were searching for the boat ever find it or a life raft? Then again, maybe they didn't have anything to signal the boats that were crisscrossing the sea that night.
Flares are what most boat owners think of as being the way to attract attention if you're in distress, especially at night. But how many boat owners upgrade their flare kit so when flares are needed they work? In many cases the flares are left rolling around some dank locker. They are wet, moldy and probably starting to disintegrate.
