M2 PRESSWIRE-14 November 2000-CSIRO: Big future for South Australian energy (C)1994-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
RDATE:14112000
The latest developments in energy technologies mean big opportunities for South Australia, MP's were told at a CSIRO Science Briefing in Parliament House Adelaide today.
A CSIRO hybrid energy system integrating natural gas and solar thermal energy has good potential for South Australia, according to CSIRO Energy Technology's Jim Edwards.
"CSIRO's concept is to integrate natural gas and solar thermal energy for advanced power generation systems," says Mr Edwards.
"South Australia has a high demand for fossil energy for both electricity generation and direct use by industry. Much of this energy is supplied by natural gas.
"Natural gas accounts for more than half of all electricity generated in South Australia and the forecast is for strong growth in natural gas and other sectors of the South Australian economy.
