3 PRINCIPLES TO GUIDE CHINA INVESTMENT POLICY: TAIWAN PREMIER

TAIPEI - The government will "nimbly" think about whether to raise the ceiling on Taiwan businesses' China investment based on three principles, Premier Su Tseng-chang said Tuesday.

The three principles are that Taiwan's sovereignty must be maintained, policy must be made actively, and the government must play a leading role, according to Su.

JAPAN, INDONESIA AGREE ON KEY ELEMENTS OF EPA

JAKARTA - Indonesia and Japan have agreed on key elements of their economic partnership agreement (EPA) expected to be fully effective next year.

Japan and Indonesia have agreed on the framework of the cooperation pact, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said in joint press conference with visiting President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

TAIWAN 2006 GROWTH FORECAST REVISED UPWARD TO 4.23%

TAIPEI - Chung Hua Institution for Economic Research said Tuesday it has adjusted its forecast for Taiwan's economic growth for this year upward to 4.23 per cent from 4.11 per cent as a result of the export sector's unexpectedly strong performance.

The think tank also raised its forecast for Taiwan's economic growth for 2007 from 4.10 per cent to 4.13 per cent.

PHILIPPINES CLASSIFIES SUBIC BAY AS 'SUPER REGION'

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT - Subic Bay, one of the country's premier destinations, is delineated as one of the "super regions" under the Metro Luzon Urban Beltway.

The others are North Luzon Agribusiness Quadrangle, Central Philippines, Mindanao and the Cyber Corridor.

TAIWAN SEES BALLOONING TRADE SURPLUS WITH CHINA IN JAN-OCT

BEIJING - Taiwan had a US$54.11 billion trade surplus with China's mainland in the first ten months of the year, according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

The mainland exported US$16.96 billion worth of products to Taiwan from January to October, a rise of 27.1 per cent over the same 2005 period, while imports from Taiwan totaled US$71.07 billion, up 18.9 per cent.

SOLOMONS PM OFFENDED BY CLAIMS HIS NATION IS POOR, CORRUPT

HONIARA - Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare said he was insulted by reports his country was one of the most corrupt nations in the Pacific and had experienced no real economic growth in the past 20 years.

Mr Sogavare strongly condemned the reports stating that as the leader of this country he knew that Solomon Islands economy was growing at a fast pace, Solomon Star reports.

COUP THREAT COULD COST 50,000 JOBS IN FIJI, SAYS TOURISM BUREAU

SUVA - Fifty-thousand workers in the tourism industry are expected to lose their jobs if the military continues to threaten the government, Fiji Visitors Bureau chief executive Viliame Gavoka says, Fiji Times reports.
