Nov. 29--It was a mirage. The Rangers were playing sub-par hockey, yet held a 3-1 lead late in the second period last night against the Atlanta Thrashers. "I guess we thought we were playing better than we did," Brendan Shanahan said. All mirages eventually disappear, and this one evaporated into a 5-4 overtime loss at Madison Square Garden, the second consecutive extra-session defeat for the Blueshirts.
