Nov. 29--If you're not playing for the national championship, going to a bowl game is a lot like real estate. It's about three things: location, location, location.
The beach, the balmy Pacific breezes and that laid-back, toes-in-the-sand California atmosphere -- this is what bowling in December is supposed to be all about.
It's not exactly the bowl matchup TCU might have dreamed of -- a chance to pummel another so-called BCS aristocrat would have been preferable -- but you gotta love the dream location.
And if the Horned Frogs' luck holds, they'll even still have a head coach when they kick off against Northern Illinois in San Diego's Poinsettia Bowl in about three weeks.
Have to admit I did wince a bit Monday when the news came that Alabama had just fired Mike Shula. First there were the Miami and Iowa State openings to sweat. Then North Carolina State and Arizona State canned...
