A new liquefied natural gas (LNG) project has been launched in Canada to provide transhipment and storageservices for the North American east coast markets, writes Tony Gray .
Newfoundland LNG said its Grassy Point terminal in Placentia Bay would provide facilities for cargo transfer, temporary vessel-based storage and alay-up site for in-transit LNG carriers, as well as land-based storage.
Over three phases the project, which is jointly owned by North Atlantic Pipeline Partners LP and LNG Partners LLC, will involve the construction and operation of three jetties able to berth vessels of up to 265,000 cu m, the largest ever ordered.
A single berth would be initially constructed, followed by additional berths as the LNG demand increased, Newfoundland LNG said.
Each would be capable of berthing a 265,000 cu m and a 140,000 cu m LNG carrier.
