GERMAN KG financier Nordcapital has decided against going it alone in the shipmanagement sector and has teamed up with the Norwegian OSM group to set up a joint management company for eight platform supply vessels, writes Katrin Berkenkopf in Cologne.
OSM Schiffahrt, based in Hamburg, should also be active in the gas and tanker markets in the medium term, Nordcapital said.
Until earlier this year the group, owned by Erck Rickmers, focused solely on boxships. But diversification was on the agenda, said G'nther Casjens, who is in charge of shipping projects, and it required additional shipmanagement knowhow.
To date Nordcapital has ordered the eight PSVs for about $200m from Aker Yards in Norway and bought a secondhand bulker, which is managed by a Hamburg tramp owner.
OSM will be in charge of crewing for the PSVs. 'We have won one of the leading ship managers as partner,' said Mr Rickmers. 'Through the co-operation we are able to exploit the numerous development opportunities in these markets [tanker and offshore].'
