BETHESDA, M. D. -- The Food and Drug Administration has approved memantine, the first drug to treat moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease.
Memantine was approved last year in Europe for moderate to severe Alzheimer's. Its approval in the United States makes memantine the first treatment for advanced stages of the disease.
