Like a rocket on the Fourth of July, the existing single family home median sales price in Florida soared to new heights in July, reaching $119,600 last month -- an increase of 11 percent over the statewide median sales price of $107,400 in July 1999, according to the Florida Association of Realtors(R) (FAR). The national existing home median sales price was $139,800 in June 2000, according to the National Association of Realtors(R) (NAR).
Over the past five years, the statewide median sales price for existing single family homes has climbed 32.7 percent: In 1995, the statewide existing single family home median sales price was $90,100, FAR records show. Statewide, the total number of existing single family homes sold in July remained virtually flat -- the first time no gains have been reported since October 1999. A total of 13,563 single-family existing homes were sold statewide last month, compared to a total of 13,559 homes sold in July 1999. FAR's sales figures reflect closings, which typically occur 30 to 90 days after sales contracts …
