Because of Gillespie Park residents' concerns about more businesses intruding into the north Sarasota neighborhood, consultant Andres Duany said he will modify sketches of proposed revitalization plans for the area.

Duany, who is updating Sarasota's downtown redevelopment master plan, met Thursday at City Hall with members of the Gillespie Park Neighborhood Association and the Gillespie Park Action Council.

The council supports Duany's suggestions that the neighborhood, which is within walking distance of downtown, have a mixture of commercial and residential development. The association opposes giving commercial interests too much of a foothold.
