Do not pass by this study of La Espana Moderna believing it to be for specialists only. Rhian Davies's book is an exemplary in-depth study of a major review, but its significance derives from more than that specific focus. The acquaintance with reviews of the early twentieth century that many Hispanists have is frequently confined to brief consultation. Here they will find reason for going to look at journals and reviews as phenomena in their own right, and not simply as vehicles for the output of canonical writers.
