Investigational Drug HE2000 Targets Immune System

Hollis-Eden Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: HEPH) today announced the presentation of clinical data from HIV-infected patients being treated with the Company's investigational drug candidate HE2000 in a Phase I/II clinical trial in South Africa. The data were presented in a poster session at the World AIDS Conference being held in Durban, South Africa. At the presentation, investigators are discussing data from the study indicating that statistically significant increases in key immune system cells were seen across the 37 patients reported on from the study. These immune system cells are recognized as being important in containing HIV and fighting opportunistic infections. In addition, HE2000 has been generally well tolerated, with injection site pain and irritation being the only drug-related serious adverse event being reported.
The Phase I/II clinical trial in South Africa is a dose escalation study evaluating the effect of HE2000 in three dosing groups (50 mg, 100 mg or 200 mg). Patients initially receive a single injection followed one to two weeks later by a daily injection for five consecutive days.
