WAL-MART TO ENTER INDIAN MARKET AFTER SIGNING JV DEAL WITH BHARTI
NEW DELHI - US retail giant Wal-Mart will enter the fast-growing retail market in India after signing a joint agreement with India's Bharti Enterprises, according to media reports. The two companies said they had signed a deal to "jointly explore business opportunities" in India. Bharti chairman Sunil Mittal said the two companies intended to open "several hundred" stores across India under the Wal-Mart brand name. "They (Wal-Mart) will be a joint venture partner," Mittal said on the sidelines of the India Economic Summit. "We are talking here about several hundred (stores) across the country," Mittal said.
