KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 Asia Pulse - CIMB Investment Bank Berhad (CIMB) Monday announced a proposal for the merger of Sime Darby Berhad (KLSE:4197), Golden Hope Plantations Berhad (KLSE:1953) and Kumpulan Guthrie Berhad (KLSE:3131) to create the world's largest listed oil palm plantation player with a total market capitalisation of some RM31 billion (US$8.5 billion).
With total plantation land of about 600,000 ha, the proposed merger could result in the new oil palm plantation entity producing some 9 million metric tonnes (MT) of fresh fruit bunches and 2.5 million MT of palm oil, with the latter representing five per cent to six per cent of global production.
