* Under a new law signed by Governor Arnold Schwar-zennegger, athletes at California public colleges who are convicted of a violent felony will not be allowed to participate in any school sporting events until they have served their full sentences.

* The U.S. Naval Academy will use Breathalyzers and threat of expulsion to cut down on the drinking that has contributed to the school's high rate of sexual assaults. The school has a zero tolerance underage drinking policy, while those 21 and over may have three drinks per night, as long as blood-alcohol content does not exceed 0.08%.

* Even though his school has abysmal graduation rates for men's basketball and football athletes, University of Georgia President Michael Adams said the school will continue to accept athletes who do not meet admissions requirements. Only 9% of its men's basketball players and 41% of its football players have graduated within six years, according to a recent NCAA study,

* At Ohio University, the AD will decide on discipline for student athletes instead of coaches. The announcement stems from 17 football players being arrested in 2006, with none being suspended by the football coach.
