Superlatives come all too easily when reviewing Roland Mortier's work. His prodigious output has comprised, in the decade 1991-2000, well over eighty articles, plus three books and five editions (two of them critical editions of important works by Voltaire). This weighty volume is a rich selection of all that scholarship: twenty-three articles, to which is added a monograph on the Venetian writer Cataneo, originally published in 1965 (Studies on Voltaire and the Eighteenth Century, 32: 91-268).
