Shawn Seamons, a lifelong resident of Logan, Utah, recently walked into the Island Market and handed Joanne Hanson, the store's owner, a check for $200. He said it was to pay her back for all the candy he shoplifted from her store when he was a schoolboy.
Alex Cabrero of KSL, Channel 5 in Salt Lake City, interviewed both parties involved in this highly unusual story about the triumph of a man's conscience over his past transgressions. Seamons said he went to the Island Market almost every day after grade school to feed his insatiable sweet tooth, but never paid for his goodies. As Seamons walked around the store he recollected for the reporter: "This was the candy aisle. This was the medicine aisle."
