The wedding party broke up and we tottered out of the restaurant and found ourselves on the warm street. It was nearly midnight. But it seemed such a shame to be going home. What with the effect of the champagne, and being booted and suited in all my finery, including an electric-pink tie, reduced in the sale from [pounds sterling]69.99 to [pounds sterling]19.99, I was feeling rather splendid. So I suggested to the person I found myself standing next to on the pavement, a news photographer, that we try to find somewhere that was still open and carry on, and he said what a good idea.
Journalists have a reputation for being good company. But in my opinion what presumably makes them so...
