The American Association for the Advancement of Science--the world's largest general federation of scientists--fought back Oct. 30 against an initiative by conservatives to curtail National Institutes of Health funding for over 150 research grants on topics like HIV/AIDS among sex workers, associations between drug and alcohol abuse and sexually transmitted disease, and depression among homosexuals.
