TV PERFORMANCE

I can't believe that direct broadcast satellite television reception is so erratic when I'm just sitting at the slip and wanting to watch a ballgame. Does anyone make a stabilized direct TV marine antenna that isn't as big as the huge domes I see on 80-foot yachts?

Henry Meyer

Via E-mail

The reception of satellite TV signals from a dish is extremely critical in both azimuth and elevation. Any slight movement of the dish will cause your TV signal to freeze. Good news comes from KVH Industries, the leader in marine and RV stabilized satellite TV antennas, with a product it calls Trac Vision Cruiser. Look at the photo and you can see me holding this under-40-pound system. I had it up and running within three hours, and the gyro-stabilized tracking dish antenna inside the white dome stays locked onto the television satellite whether in heavy seas or gently rolling at the dock. Check out the KVH satellite antenna at the next boat show.

WIRE WOES

My starboard running light went out, and I discovered that the wires had broken off from the internal lamp socket. For the life of me, I can't get solder to stick on the wires to get them back in place. Do I need a special type of solder?
