ALI VELSHI, CNNfn ANCHOR, YOUR MONEY: Savings bonds, they are a popular gift. They have been over the last number of years. Grandparents, aunts, and uncles give them to the little kids. They are very easy to get. You can buy them at any bank, financial institution, and now you can actually buy them online. They come in eight different denominations. And it might be the perfect gift for teaching a young person about saving.
Paul Vogelzang is the executive director of investor education and communications at the U.S. Treasury. He joins us now from Washington with more on savings bonds.

VELSHI: I don`t get why there is a renewed interest in savings bonds, given that there are, since savings bonds were introduced, there are so many more vehicles available to the average investor, the retail investor, as we call it, for saving. Why the resurgence in interest in savings bonds?
