The Alpha Center, Charlotte County's only charter school, is poised to receive $638,000 in capital funds for the coming school year.
At a public hearing Tuesday afternoon, the Charlotte County School Board approved the center's application for School Infrastructure Thrift funds from the state. The funds can be used for the purchase or lease of buildings , vehicles or anything else related to the construction, renovation or physical needs of a campus.
"I'm pleased," Alpha Center co-founder Walter Marks said after the 2 1/2- hour hearing, which drew impassioned appeals both for and against the center from educators, parents, staff and students.
