Jeanne Wunderle is the embodiment of the old saying that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Five of her former lifeguards now are fulltime parks and recreation professionals, with four of them following in Wunderle's footsteps as directors. Three more currently are pursuing degrees in the same direction. And those are only a few of the countless guards (including son, T.J., pictured above) she's worked with during her 30 years with the city of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
Over the years, the only constant has been change--in the faces she meets every summer and the facilities she operates.
In the early years, the city had only an indoor and an outdoor pool. Then, in 1998, Wunderle oversaw the opening of the state-of-the-art Water Works Family Aquatic Center, a $6.2 million investment. Now the city is embarking on a $26 million community center that will house three pools: leisure, lap and instructional.
