It's hard to say which of Katie Couric's news broadcasts last week was the most surprising. Was it her first one, on Tuesday, which she delivered live from the Burning Man festival? Or Wednesday's installment, which began with her swooping into her anchor chair on a Peter Pan wire? Or Thursday's, in which she fashioned her voice-overs as a series of Ezra Pound-like cantos? On reflection, I'd vote for Friday's show, when Couric impishly read the news wearing a black burka. (A Prada burka, but still.)
