Visa to roll out contactless cards in UK nationally from 2007.

Visa has announced that it will roll out contactless cards nationwide in the UK. The roll out is to start next year in the London region. The decision was taken unanimously by the Visa UK board of Directors.

Visa are to keep the GBP10 maximum threshold for transactions using the contactless method only. Sandra Alzetta, Visa Europe Senior Vice President Consumer Market Development, said: "With over 75% of all cash payments being less than GBP10, the introduction of contactless payments will play a major role in encouraging the use of cards over cash for low value transactions.
