Dozens of budding Clarence Darrows battled it out at the Manatee County Courthouse on Saturday.
The future trial attorneys' prize was not a guilty or not-guilty verdict, but a chance to compete in the state championship.
County and circuit judges served as the presiding magistrates in the cases as students from five area high schools competed in the eighth annual High School Mock Trial competition.
Area attorneys judged the students' performances. The lawyers also told the students how to handle objections and gave other pointers to make their presentations more effective.
