The Sarasota County School Board on Tuesday approved spending $559,000 to upgrade the computer systems at three county schools, making them the last of the county's 34 public schools to receive technology improvements that will provide Internet access.
Work at Alta Vista, North Port Glenallen and Phillippi Shores elementary schools should be completed by fall.
The board's decision at a Tuesday night meeting came a month after board member Larry Helmuth lashed out at district administrators for overlooking the needs at the three schools, which he says have "antique computers that belong in the trash heap."
