A 35-year-old Bradenton man is infected with bacterial meningitis.

The Manatee County Health Department announced Friday that it is investigating how the hospitalized man contracted the contagious and potentially deadly disease, and whether anyone he knew could be infected.

Eaton Corp., an aerospace manufacturer, was notified by health authorities that the man is a punch-press operator at the plant.

"We immediately invited the health department to speak to employees," Eaton spokeswoman Marie Keeney said.

Health authorities explained to 40 to 50 Eaton workers that bacterial meningitis is not transmitted through casual contact. Infection is…
