Reviews Strategic Accomplishments and Operating Performance At
Annual Meeting of Stockholders
At the company's annual meeting of stockholders held today in Kansas City, Mo., Applebee's International, Inc. (Nasdaq: APPB) announced the election of Lloyd L. Hill as chairman of the board of directors, and senior management reviewed the company's recent strategic accomplishments and operating performance.
Mr. Hill assumes the duties of chairman in addition to his previous positions of chief executive officer and president. He joined the company as a senior executive in 1994 after serving on the company's board of directors since 1989. In January 1997, he became co-chief executive officer, and in January 1998, Mr. Hill assumed the full duties of chief executive officer.
Mr. Hill's election as chairman follows the retirement of Abe J. Gustin, Jr. from the board of directors. As a part of Mr. Gustin's planned transition from the management of the company, he retired as an active executive of the company at the end of 1998 and became an Applebee's franchisee in 1999. The company expressed its deep appreciation for Mr. Gustin's contributions and years of service.
