Chilean poet Oscar Hahn, who has 14 books and more than 60 years behind him, saw his collection Mal de amor banned in 1981 by his country's military regime. His latest book, Versos robados, is here published in a bilingual edition as Stolen Verse and Other Poems, which adds some sonnets and other poems that translator James Hoggard has not published previously. "Lapidary" finds "Finally there's the rock of madness/that's found where the great darkness is/It heals the demon-mad one who ties it around his neck/and walks on air when the moon appears."
