The small window of the shed, hung on either side with gingham curtains, looked out onto the neighbour's back yard. Apart from the window the walls of the shed were almost completely lined with books. They were second-hand books; hardback and paperback. Clive had built the shelves himself and although by no means a handyman he was proud of his efforts. He had been collecting books all his life. They covered a wide range of subjects, from politics, travel and gardening to the arts; and many of them were rare.
