HUMAN RIGHTS in China are not a problem. The problem is people demanding them all the time," says Councillor Len Hoxha, leader of Ghasthurst Council's far-left Labor group.
He was speaking at a media conference on his return from Beijing where he has been on a dual mission--to negotiate the "twinning" of Ghasthurst and Beijing and to seek support for Ghasthurst's bid to be next host city, after Harare in 2002, for the International Leninist Games, and then for the Olympics in 2012.
"So-called human rights campaigners who go to the Beijing Games will find nothing to complain about," says Councillor Hoxha. "They won't get the chance to look. They'll be strictly confined to the Games precinct and kept well away from contact with ordinary Chinese people where they might be tempted to try fermenting dissatisfaction and making trouble."
Councillor Hoxha said the Chinese would bring a "fresh approach" to the 2008 Games. ...
