SIR: For the record, please allow me to make a correction. In my tribute to the late Clyde Packer at St James' Church, Sydney (July-August 2001), I repeated Clyde's account of his role in the fall of the Gorton government in 1971. As he had recalled it, he had invited Mr Gorton, to a Meet the Press program on Channel Nine at which journalists asked him difficult or damaging questions. Soon afterwards Malcolm Fraser resigned from cabinet and William McMahon replaced John Gorton as Prime Minister.
