With federal IT spending on the rise, defense giant Lockheed Martin Corp. announced this morning it plans to acquire the outstanding stock of OAO Corp., a government IT contractor in Greenbelt.
Terms were not disclosed.
The Bethesda company's Technology Services business unit, which is based in Cherry Hill, N.J., plans to combine OAO with one of its companies, Lockheed Martin Information Support Services.
Lockheed Martin Technology Services spokeswoman Wendy Owen said both firms serve different customer bases, adding that the acquisition will better position the combined company to compete in a growing government IT market.
Lockheed Martin forecasts that federal IT spending will rise from $36 billion this year to more than $60 billion in 2006.
