When he struck into a big fish near the outfall, Eric thought he had hooked a pike - but was amazed when he landed a 7lb-plus brown trout after an eight-minute battle.
Rainbow trout are frequently caught in the Trent, but a brown trout of this size is rare.
"I have never caught a trout before.
"The fish was 26 inches long and it was so big that I had to have five goes at getting it in the net.
"I love my fishing," added Eric, who is now 70. "I started fishing the Trent when I was 14. It used to be all roach and dace in those days.
