USING THIS DIRECTORY

In this Directory are members of the Cross Country Ski Areas Association. Whether it's called a cross country ski area, an outdoor center, a nordic center, a ski resort, or a touring center, these places specialize in winter fun and invite you to their trails for the best of cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

Information presented here is abbreviated for publication. More complete information is on the Internet at www.xcski.org where you can link directly to the individual ski areas and businesses.

This Directory is organized first by country (Canada & US) and second by state and province. Ski shops are listed at the end of each state's list of xc areas. National stores and mail order catalogs selling xc gear are on page 12. Products are at the back of the Directory.

TRAILS ... listed in this Directory are the machine groomed trails. Cross country trails are generally measured in kilometers which is .6 miles and abbreviated by km.

RENTALS ... most nordic centers rent ski equipment. We have noted the exceptions in this Directory. Snowshoes and children's pulk sleds may also be available to rent. Inquire about available rental gear before leaving home.

LESSONS ... since most cross country ski areas offer lessons, we don't mention it in each listing. Be sure to ask when lessons are available. A couple of hours of instruction and you'll have the skills for a lifetime of enjoyment. Instruction will help an experienced skier to improve.

DOGS ON TRAILS ... some nordic centers welcome skiers with dogs. Dogs may be allowed on certain trails while others allow dogs at certain times. Most require a trail ticket for both skier and dog. We recommend you inquire with the ski area before bringing your dog with you.

SNOWSHOEING ... most cross country areas invite snowshoers to use their trails. Some nordic centers will designate certain trails for snowshoers. Be sure to ask which trails are available for snowshoeing. If the trails are shared with xc skiers, please stay off the groomed tracks and yield to skiers.
