The Executive Secretary of SADC (the Southern African Development Community), Prega Ramsamy, has reiterated the importance the regional organisation attaches to the role of NGOs.

He was officially launching the Botswana NGO Week in Gaborone on 8 October, organised by the Botswana Council of NGOs (BOCONGO).

Ramsamy attributed the failure of development programmes and integration schemes in many parts of the world, especially in Africa, to the exclusion of interested parties in civil society.
