Inflation in Angola reached a level of 126 percent for the period September 2000 to September 2001, the Council of Ministers in Luanda has announced. Predicted inflation for this year was 75 percent, in the light of 2000's rate of 268 percent.
The Angolan cabinet, meeting to analyse economic and political objectives for 2002, said the rate for 2002 will not rise above 50 percent. Growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 15.1 percent is predicted, with the oil sector accounting for 21.1 percent of this figure and the rest of the economy 7 percent.
The government's social and economic programme for 2002, which will be presented to parliament for approval, estimates next year will see a fiscal deficit of about nine percent of GDP.
