This disc of Bach material is really a showcase for flutist Emmanuel Pahud, a former member of the Berlin Philharmonic and on his own for some years. He is ably accompanied on four Bach works by several former Berlin Philharmonic colleagues now playing under the banner of the Berlin Baroque Soloists. The Berlin musicians play on period instruments that have been modernized in various ways.

The performances are energetic but in no way rushed. Pahud is always the featured player, but in the two bigger orchestral pieces he does not command stage center as some stars might demand.
